 A Relaxing Beach the Aussie Way By Ali Dyer (Photos by Matt Terwilliger) Newcastle, NSW Australia is known for its beautiful beaches. Newcastle also is known for having an active harbor with many large ships on the coast. In Newcastle, life is slow paced and easy going. Most of the locals spend their time wasting away on the beach. The most popular beach is Nobbys Beach. This beach is on a peninsula and you can even see the nearby island. Nobbys is most popular with families. It has a calmer ocean front where kids can play and be safe. Lifeguards are on duty all year round, seven days a week. It is easily spotted by the beautiful lighthouse at the point of the beach. Visitors can walk around the lighthouse and get a peek inside. “Nobbys is a place I like to come to just relax,” said Matt Terwilliger, a local of Newcastle, “I like to take walks around the lighthouse with my dog and spend the day just resting by the waves.” The dining is exceptionally good around the beach. There is an onsite shelter where you can get fish and chips with chicken salt on it, which is a local favorite. You can't come to the beach without trying the chicken salt. Many local restaurants and bars create an exciting nightlife. You can spend the day at the beach, and then stop by the local brewery to have dinner and watch an Aussie footy game. This also is a local favorite. In Newcastle, Nobbys Beach is a place you don’t want to miss.
