A Thought for Today

The Law of the Harvest
"That which you sew, that will you also reap." A little seed planted
and nourished will produce a full head of grain, or an acorn will produce
a great oak to provide shelter for birds and beasts or human beings for
generations. Then again, if we sew the wind, we will reap the whirlwind.
A city boy went to visit his country cousin. All day he followed
that little ruddy-faced, toe headed lad around, and marveled at the variety
in his life. When evening came he stood by and watched the cow being milked.
It was a marvel to him as he watched the foamy milk fill the bucket one
squirt at a time. After the cow was milked the country cousin took the
milk to the milk house, separated it, stored the cream in the cooler and
took most of the milk back to the barn and fed it to the calf.
The young city lad was thoughtful for a long time and then he
said, "Oh, now I see how you do it; you put it in them when they are young
and take it out when they are old."
My friends, the city boy was wiser than he knew. Happy
habits in youth produce happy people. Learning to be kind, responsible,
virtuous, honest, loyal, courteous, friendly, and brave and other positive
characteristics will usually produce an adult with these same kinds of
habits. Let’s all try to put forth an effort, to put good habits into them
when they are young, and we will surely reap a beautiful harvest, of fine
adults.
