A Thought for Today

New Years Resolution
In the classic story "The Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, Scrooge
made some mighty far-reaching resolutions, which changed his life. He changed
from a miserable moneygrubber, to a true friend to all of those in need
around him.
A story is told of a modern cynic who had the same kind of revolution
in his life. This modern Scrooge met a man on the train as he was travelling
from one big city to another. As they were forced to be together in the
same compartment they began to talk. It being Christmas time the conversation
turned to resolutions which might be made at this time of year. Together
they discussed the subject and decided, "We resolve to keep the Christmas
spirit every day of our lives. To do this we ask God to never let us make
a statement which is untrue or unkind, to help us to have a sincere smile
for everyone and never to let us fail to lend a helping hand whenever we
see a need."
The two men parted but they determined they would meet periodically
to check on their progress. These two unnamed men not only became successful
in their business, but their lives were filled with the pure pleasure which
comes to those who help others. They also became fast friends, this was
an unexpected bonus which enriched their lives.
